A new horizon
Once the taijiquan basics are familiar, the student realises that the art is
far more complex than they had realised. The journey ahead is more fascinating
than anticipated.
Not many taijiquan students get this far.
Jing
Jing becomes a major area of concern; fuelling every
movement and determining how the art is applied.
Evading a knife presents a difficult, risky
new area of study.
Applications
In order to use taijiquan effectively in combat, the student must
possess a versatile range of applications and diverse combat
skills.
There are hundreds of
applications to
learn at this stage.
They must be performed accurately and effectively against a non-cooperative
practice partner.
Range
By expanding the depth and variety of their application, the martial student
is furnishing themselves with
options.
In actual combat they will have a broad range of possible responses
available to them.
Advanced martial art
This part of the syllabus is about stripping away hesitancy and doubt.
The material must be employed skilfully and easily.
Every action is thorough and
convincing.
By performing any action with full mind, body, spirit integrated... the student
expresses the art earnestly and truthfully.
Errors and lapses in attention
that may be forgiven when we are beginners are illuminated in a harsh
spotlight by our teachers as we progress.
