Martial emphasis
Having undertaken the
experienced syllabus
and become familiar with the skills, the taijiquan student must learn how to use those
skills martially.
They come to realise that their grasp of taijiquan is crude.
The new martial skills are subtle, complex and
challenging.
Only now does the student begin to realise the
depth,
functionality and scope of taijiquan the martial
art.
Combine what you have learned
The preceding training provided every student with a fixed repertoire
of simple, effective applications using the
skills of
taijiquan.
Now, the student must find their own applications.
Using all of their existing knowledge and skill, at least 7 new
form applications must be gleaned from every
movement of the
Long Yang
form.
Your own proclivities
Developing new applications teaches the student to create applications best
suited to their own body size, capabilities, preferences and
perception.
This requirement ensures that the student fully engages with
the Art.
Providing the applications adhere strictly to
The Tai
Chi Classics and actually
work in combat, they are
acceptable.
The martial viability of each student's
taijiquan will be
tested rigorously under a wide range of difficult scenarios.
